The fresh wind slabs will form in particular adjacent to ridgelines on east and north facing slopes. These can be released easily, but they will be small in most cases. The somewhat older wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines on east and south facing slopes and at elevated altitudes. These can in isolated cases be released by people and reach medium size. In the past few hours the weather was mild. These weather conditions caused a substantial stabilisation of the snow drift accumulations. The westerly wind will transport the new snow and, in some cases, old snow as well. The fresh wind slabs will be deposited on soft layers in all aspects. In particular in the southern and eastern borders of Aran as well as at high altitude snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. The wind slabs are to be bypassed whenever possible. Backcountry touring and other off-piste activities call for experience and a certain restraint.
