The somewhat older wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines on east and south facing slopes. As a consequence of the moderate to strong southwesterly wind the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses. The fresh wind slabs will form adjacent to ridgelines on east and north facing slopes. Wind slabs can be released easily and reach medium size. In all aspects and on wind-protected slopes dry and moist snow slides are possible, but they will be mostly small. The cold fresh snow of Christmas Day and the extensive wind slabs formed during the snowfall are lying on a crust in all aspects. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. The conditions are sometimes treacherous for backcountry touring and other off-piste activities in steep terrain. Gradual increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of new snow and strong wind.
